(REGISTER NOW TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT!!) *($25 "Folk Master Harmonica" key of C available for purchase at time of registration) Train Imitation Workshop: In this one hour workshop, we'll make a brief overview of one of the most fundamental but often overlooked harmonica techniques: the musical imitation of the steam engine. A quick YouTube search will reveal at least a dozen or more "harmonica train" recordings going back to the 1920's. Practically every great player has learned to master this technique, and for good reason: it's fun, it's musical, it never fails to impress, and it's one of the best ways to begin building proper form and technique on the harmonica. We'll take a listen to some of the classic harmonica "railroad blues" and train imitation recordings, and I'll demonstrate the various sounds and effects that can be heard on many of them, including bell sounds, whistle sounds, chugging sounds, and the many different ways these effects can be created, whether you're an advanced player (playing different rhythms at once, singing while playing, etc.) or a true beginner (no note bending required!). By the end of the hour, we'll be able to play as a class the journey of a steam engine as it leaves the station, rides the rails and pulls into the station again. The class may be attended with just a diatonic harmonica in the key of C; in addition, students are encouraged to bring a harmonica in the key of G, if they have one, as well as any other harmonicas they may wish to bring.
